The GRIPPA is a standard vehicle barrier with a few modifications. One of these is the addition of immobilising "spikes" which protrude above ground level when the barrier is in the closed position.
Therefore, in the closed position, the barrier arm (boom pole) is in the horizontal position (blocking traffic flow), and the immobilising "spikes" are exposed. In the open position, the barrier arm (boom pole) is in the vertical position (allowing traffic flow) and the immobilising "spikes" are recessed into a road mounted tray assembly (buried below road surface).
The GRIPPA has been to be "active" continuously, i.e. the immobilising "spikes" are always visible and "engaged", and is "de-activated" (allows traffic flow) by a valid input signal. This is in stark contrast to the commonly available "road blocker" which is normally "de-activated", and is only activated (vehicle immobilisation) in an emergency.
The GRIPPA can be triggered by any number of activation devices, e.g. card reader, pushbutton, transmitter, etc. The control unit accepts a N/O and signal across two contacts.
1. Structure
• Tray assembly (below ground level) Hot dip galvanised 2mm cold rolled steel.
• Housing (above ground level) : 2mm mild steel, powder coated.
• Colour white
2. Width
• The GRIPPA can accommodate a boom pole and tray assembly up to a maximum length of 4 meters
3. Height Deployed
• The standard height of the spikes above the tray, when exposed, is 150mm.
4. Height Retraced
• Immobilising spikes recessed into the tray assembly, below road level. NB!! The tray assembly, when installed, sits above road level. This creates a "speed hump" of approximately 50-70mm in height. (Can also be installed level with road level)
5. Operation
• The GRIPPA operation, from fully recessed to fully exposed, takes a maximum of three (3) seconds. The time from fully recessed to when the immobilising spikes begin to produce above the tray level is a maximum of three (3) seconds.
6. Electrical
• 220 VAC.
In case of power or mechanical failure (excluding gearbox), a slight mechanical adjustment inside the GRIPPA housing will allow full manual movement.
Operation
ALLTECH'S GRIPPA VEHICLE BARRIER IS DESIGNED FOR USE IN HIGH SECURITY VEHICLE CONTROL APPLICATIONS, BANK ENTRANCES, MINES, CASH DELIVERY/COLLECTION POINTS, CASINO'S, ETC. THE BOOM ARM WILL BE LIFTED AND SECURITY SPIKES RECESSED INTO THE ROAD-MOUNTED TRAY ASSEMBLY, IN RESPONSE TO LEGITIMATE INPUT SIGNAL WHICH MAY BE DERIVED FROM A NUMBER OF SOURCES, E.G. CODED CARDS, TOKENS, REMOTE PUSH-BUTTON, KEY TICKET MACHINE, COMPUTER, LOOP DETECTOR, ETC. BURIED VEHICLE DETECTOR LOOPS INSTALLED ON EITHER SIDE OF THE TRAY ASSEMBLY, ACT AS SAFETY DEVICES TO ENSURE THE BOOM ARM AND SAFETY SPIKES DO NOT DAMAGE ANY VEHICLE STATIONARY OVER THE TRAY ASSEMBLY, AND PROVIDE A CLOSING SIGNAL TO ALLOW THE BOOM ARM TO LOWER THE SAFETY SPIKES TO BE EXPOSED AS THE VEHICLE MOVES OFF OF THE BURIED LOOPS.
